Re: Intro to the Ogham

Does anyone here use the Ogham? I have tried making my own set of staves from the relevant woods, but even after the persoanl work I'm still not sure I feel they speak to me very clearly. Not sure what I expected though, perhaps to feel some tree energy when I used them? There are also a few packs o...

What is augury then?

The Oxford English Dictionary defines it as: "a sign of what will happen in the future; an omen" so what, if anything, extra do we understand the word to mean? Is it a particular kind of divination? Does it use certain tools? It's not a phrase I use myself, so I'd be glad of ideas here to...

Re: Setting up your Mabon Altar

It's been such a wet summer here. Some of the crops have been dreadful, and the fruit and vegtables in my garden did badly.
But I shall still celebrate - does anyone have any suggestions of ways to make this equinox a more meaningful ritual?

Re: Incense Tips?

A pestle and mortar is really useful, and they're fairly easy to find I think, but for some ingredients I do use a very thick-bottomed wooded bowl (from a local wood turner) and a large smooth rock. I use it for grinding the resins - really is a case of controlled smashing rather than true grinding...

Re: Incense Tips?

First up I'd recommend a couple of books, don't know if you can borrow them at libraries, but they are both quite good and helpful. "Incesne, cafting & use of magical scents" by Carl F Neal. "Incense, Oils and Brews" Scott Cunnigham. I had the Cunnigham first, and was encour...

Re: Wood or metal?

Hi Southernwood, glad you're enjoying the wand work. I made my own wand too, and then started on a set of ogham staves each from the relevant wood. As you say, very tactile and meditative. I took a while to choose an athame. When I did, I hadn't seen any wooded options, although if I'd seen this ki...

Incense Tips?

I thought it might be a good idea to have a place where we shared incense tips and ideas. I make some of my own incense, as well as using purchased items. I make two kinds; the type which can be a bit 'lumpy' that you burn on charcoal blocks, and the type which must be very fine and smoothly ground...
